Post Speed Jam Update

How Did The Game Jam Go?

We are very proud of what we accomplished, taking into account the short time we had and that this was our first game jam. (Also, it was LoArt & Dev’s first game “finished” in GameMaker.)

We faced many challenges, but we managed to make a good game that included all the mechanics that we had imagined. We had some problems with some features, such as the jump not being responsive, the grappling being too hard to use, and some fun SFX that were quite loud. That said, everything is a learning curve and can be improved with time, experience and feedback.

We managed to place in position #54 out of 209 submissions.

Changes And Fixes

Thanks to the Game Jam, we received a lot of feedback, not only about how good the art was but also about things that weren’t working correctly and bugs. So, we took that feedback to solve many problems and improve the game.

Game Mechanics’ Changes

  • The jump mechanic now uses a Jump Buffer and a Coyote Time.
  • The grappling area was increased, letting users grapple perfectly without having to click on the grappling hook hitbox.
  • Using the map borders to have infinite jumps is now disabled.
  • Solved the problem where the players only needed to grab half the items to be on the all-items leaderboard.

Game Aesthetics And Sound

  • The collectables have an outline that makes them easier to see on the map.
  • The SFX volume problem was solved.
  • Overlapping UI elements during transition scenes have been properly hidden.

We hope you enjoy the game and if you have any feedback you want to add feel free to leave it in a comment, we are working hard to make this game better and cannot wait to show you where we plan to take it. (More updates to come.)
